Beyond the Basics with Radiant Pearls
by Julie Pialet (My Heart Stamps For You )

More creative RP techniques!

  1. Direct To Rubber technique:
You can apply Radiant Pearls directly to your rubber stamp, and stamp on paper. Bold or solid images seem to work best, although you can achieve a nice effect with more detailed images by applying Radiant Pearls sparingly. Applying Radiant Pearls directly to the rubber with a Whiska brush is the easiest way to apply the paint. It may take a try or two to figure out how much paint to use. You want to apply it fairly heavily (if using solid images) but not so heavy that your stamp slides on the paper when you stamp it. If you have certain details that you want to be sure to pick up with color..you can then take a detail brush and add color here and there.for instance, a stem of a pear that you might want brown but the Whiska brushes are too large to be able to achieve that detail. Once you get the paint applied, stamp directly onto cardstock, pressing down hard, but being careful not to let it slide. You can let it air dry for a soft velvety look, or emboss with clear or detail clear embossing powder for a shiny look. If you like, you can then mist the stamp and stamp again, usually getting another 3 to 5 stampings out of the image, depending on how much paint was applied. (see misting technique, # 3 )
  2. Joseph's Coat technique:
Stamp and clear emboss a brightly colored image onto cardstock. (use direct to rubber technique to stamp image with Radiant Pearls) Now coat the entire surface including the background with black colorbox pigment ink. You can also use a black Brilliance pad. Just tap the black pad all over it till everything is covered in black, including the image you just embossed. Coat the entire surface with clear powder and emboss. The image you embossed will reappear, although muted somewhat. You can use any color pigment ink for this technique, but black give the most dramatic effect. Another option is to use metallic pigment inks along with the black in the background or framing the piece. You can create a whole different look in the background by using the sides of the pads to create different angles, etc.in the piece.
  3. Misting technique:
This is a great technique for backgrounds. Apply Radiant Pearls to stamp. If it is applied too thick, take some off, or stamp it once on another piece of paper. Now lightly mist stamp (with water) and stamp. Continue to do this until you have no more color. You are building your background. If needed, paint stamp again, stamp it on another piece of paper again to get most of the paint off, and begin the misting process again. This process creates a soft watercolor looking background. Light to medium colors work the best. Now for the image you want in the foreground, paint the stamp with Radiant Pearls using darker colors of Radiant Pearls in the same color families. Mist with denatured alcohol and stamp. This image will dry very quickly since the nature of alcohol is to evaporate. Go over any detailed areas with a detail brush to bring those details to the foreground. You can also use what Radiant Pearls are left on the stamp now by misting again and again and stamping right over what you previously stamped on the background. (if you are using the same stamp that you previously used on the background.) You can just eyeball it, or if you prefer a more precise look, use a stamp positioner. When you stamp over a previous image, do something different with the second one, like pressing harder on one edge to leave a darker impression there, or lighter on certain edges.
  4. Acetate technique:
Stamp image onto a piece of acetate with a permanent ink such as a black Memories pad and let dry completely. Turn over and apply dab of paper glaze, or other dimensional product. Spread this out over design area using a detail brush or flat end of a toothpick. Apply drops of different colors of Radiant Pearls where you want them, using a different toothpick for each one and swirling the color in to mix with the glaze. When you have applied all the colors you want, take a piece of tissue paper and crumple it up and without flattening it back down all the way, place it over your glazed area and press down flat, smoothing out the glaze and Radiant Pearls. This will also mix colors more. Let this dry, trim closely to the design and apply this piece to a card.
